Hundreds of small to medium-sized businesses across Canada and Northern Ontario provide a range of goods and services to resource operations, including construction, catering, environmental services, security and manufactured equipment. Resource industries are major employers of Indigenous people in Canada and provide critical training opportunities for Indigenous youth. Indigenous communities are increasingly operating and investing in resource sector businesses and are creating businesses that either support or are supported by the resource sector. Partnerships with Indigenous communities create strong social licenses that support social and economic development.
Panelists will discuss Northern Ontario’s unique opportunity to use trade and innovation to fulfill the fundamental needs of humanity in a way that respects the limits of our earth and sound strategies to seize these opportunities for a prosperous future.
